PND, A Divided Developer for Paper Negatives

Post by tim.bowman »

Hello folks.

I recently typed up my developer for paper negatives:
https://hellothisistim.com/blog/pnd-pap ... developer/

The process has two goals: control contrast, and maximize acutance. I'm getting paper negs that print nicely with a grade 2 filter.

It was a long path to get here, but after much exploration, PND ended up being a dilute version of Stoeckler's D-23 two-bath, or a divided version of Beutler's high acutance developer. I am indebted greatly to those gentlemen and also to Bill Troop and Steve Anchell for The film Developing Cookbook, and The Darkroom Cookbook. Without those collections of recipes and wisdom, I never would have found this process.

If anyone out there tries this process, please get in touch to let me know how it goes for you. So far, I've been the only tester.

Oh, I should specify: This process doesn't make paper look like film. Nothing will do that. But it does yield nice, printable paper negatives.
