Developer Dilution - How Does it affect your negs?

Post by neal.niemiec »

My notes include the following -

Higher Dilution =

- Higher Acutance

- Larger Grain

- lower overall contrast? is that correct ? I thought by increasing dilution, contrast is increased by extending dev time?

Taking into account how different types of developers behave differently - Any other input to share on varying dilution that can be applied is high valued.

Thanks!

You can add higher speed (in some developers). Some developers never gave the film's full "box" speed at stock but did give the higher speed (as rated) when diluted 1+1 or 1+3. Microdol-X and Perceptol for two that come to mind. Just my two cents.
