Beseler 45A for Split Grade

Post by concerninglight »

Hey all

Anyone have any experience using a 45A head for split grade printing?
It's an entirely different approach, so any insights to shorten the curve would be appreciated.

While I am familiar with the 45A, I have to confess I've never printed using one. Hopefully, someone on the forum can help you with this.

Thanks Steve.

I "get" 90% of how this works.
But since the color intensity is tied at the hip with the density, I'm a bit confused on how to emulate the paper grades for split grade.
The digital density adjustment is awesome for F-Stop printing, but I'm used to the color being independent.

And the chart in the book that has the settings for the Kodak grading is just outlandish....from what I can tell.

There are two paragraphs in the section on variable contrast printing with the ring mode presets.
One says the settings are in 1/2 grade increments and two or three paragraphs later it says that the values in the presets shouldn't be considered paper grades as they are just arbitrary values.
LOL
