Defender D 55 print developer

Post by markbau »

Edition 4 of the Cookbook has reawakened my interest in home brews. I have started using D 55 for the first time and I must say, what a lovely developer, I've been using it with Ilford MG classic and it gives the most subtle warm tones that I really like, unlike any other paper/developer I've used over the years. For me, full development at 1:2 does not occur until 3 minutes, not 2 minutes as stated in the book. Thanks again for the new edition Steve.

Thank you for sharing your experience with D55 and the recommendation for a 3 minute developing time. Most of the developing times with vintage paper developers, such as Defender 55-D, were based on older paper emulsions containing less hardener.
