Re: Minimum Developer per 80 sq. in. of film - clarification
Ever since I took Steve's advice in the Cookbook and started to make sure I had 250ml of stock developer my negs have improved remarkably. I use D76 1:1 (stock if developing for salt printing negs) It is now one of my golden rules.

Re: Effect of less sodium sulfite?
I've developed 2 sheets with the sulphite deficient developer and although I haven't printed them yet they look pretty good to my eye.

Effect of less sodium sulfite?
So tonight I was mixing up some D76, when it came time to add the sulfite I only had 75g instead of the required 100g, so what I have mixed up is 100% of the metol, hydroquinone and Borax but 75% of the sulfite. Will this be useable or should I chuck it? The 5x7 negs I'll be developing are nothing i...

Can Boric acid be used for Borax?
I just ordered some Borax for use in mixing up D76. What turned up was "Boric Acid" are they the same thing? An internet search does not make it clear if they can be substituted. The latest cookbook mentions both but does not say if Boric acid can be substituted for Borax.

Re: Hypo clear formula
I have 2 editions of the Darkroom Cookbook! (Actually, I've bought the 4th edition twice, gave my first copy to a friend) I found the formula in the 4th edition after I posted.

Hypo clear formula
In the article Mysteries of the Vortex published in DCCT many years ago, the authors said that a heaped teaspoon of Sodium Sulphite in one litre of water was an effective wash aid. First, a question, does anyone know for sure that this is, in fact, a substitute for a wash aid such as Ilford Wash Aid...

Thiourea toning problem.
A few years ago I started using Thiourea and had some problems where the lighter tones never fully redeveloped. Today I had another go. I have been using the formulas and procedure outlined in the Ephrams book. Anyhow, my question is what am I doing wrong? My light grey clouds all but disappear in t...

Edwal FG-7
Years ago when I lived in the US I had great success with FG-7 but it started to become inconsistent, a guy at a photo store in Denver told me that they were having quality control problems. Anyhow, I loved the developer but can't recall ever seeing a formula for it. Does anyone have the formula?

Defender D 55 print developer
Edition 4 of the Cookbook has reawakened my interest in home brews. I have started using D 55 for the first time and I must say, what a lovely developer, I've been using it with Ilford MG classic and it gives the most subtle warm tones that I really like, unlike any other paper/developer I've used o...

Thanks Steve for the great explanation of TMax, I tried it when it first hit the market and although I couldn't put my finger on it, I just didn't like how it printed, I know this isn't a technical description but I always found the mid tones did not have the separation I like. I went back to Tri X ...

Wynn Bullock's Carbonate solution
First of all, congrats on the new 4th edition!
On page 76/77 there is a formula for Carbonate solution but it doesn't specify which type of carbonate. Is it potassium carbonate or sodium or sodium carbonate?
Thanks
Mark
